*Philippines - CBM's Blair Clark is currently in the Philippines and sends us the following update:
As the Pastor led, some of the inhabitants of a small mountain village on the island of Panay discussed their most pressing needs. At the end of the conversation, the pastor translated the needs into dollar amounts, to reveal that just $450 could rebuild a house for a family! "If their hopes, dreams and dignity can be restored for just $450 per family, how can we not help?", says Blair. $450 doesn't sound like much to those of us living in Canada, but to the folks living in the mountains of Panay it means everything. At the end of his message, Blair writes, "To each and every one who has so generously contributed funds for Typhoon Haiyan relief, thank you from those whose lives you have touched, to whom you have given hope, and with whom you have shared God's love in a tangible way." Please continue to pray for the Philippines and its people as they begin to rebuild not only their homes but their lives and livelihood as well.

*Ukraine - Publisher and pastor Stanislov K. was beaten and hit in the left eye on December 2, 2013, south of Kiev, as he was leaving his publishing house to lead services in a nearby village. Evidence suggests that the attackers were former KGB operatives. The motive for the attack is the rising interest in reading Christian literature among the population in that area. Pastor K. has a wife and 7 children. Pray for his eye to heal, for his family, and for the Lord to turn this assault into something good.
This is the plea of persecuted Christians around the world. Today around the world over 200 million are suffering for their faith in Jesus Christ. Each year, Canadians join with Christians in over 130 countries to stand in prayer with our suffering sisters and brothers for the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP).
Persecuted Church – Did you know?
An estimated 100 million Christians are murdered, assaulted, raped, tortured, beaten, abducted, forced to flee as internal, and external refugees.
Many Christians are forced to be secret believers, unable to declare their faith openly, and cannot get help from churches because their presence will jeopardize the safety of churches.
Persecution is growing and expanding in Africa, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia, Russia, Mexico, Venezuela and Peru.
Christian radio stations like Trans World Radio, HCJB Global Radio, and Far Eastern Broadcasting Association beam into persecuting areas to encourage secret believers.
Persecuted Christians face job discrimination, and lose educational opportunities.
